Tuesday 25th November 2025 - Autumn Term Issue 4

Headteacher Message

This is a bumper newsletter packed full of lots of important information you need to know for the coming weeks, so please take the time to read through it.

Festive activities

Christingle Service – Sunday 7th December
We are excited to take part in the village Christingle Service at 5:00p.m, following the Christmas tree lights switch-on. The children will be making their Christingles in school on Thursday 4th December. Please can we ask that every child brings an orange into school that day (we will provide the raisins, tape and candles).

Reindeer Run - Thursday 18th December

The student council have requested that the Reindeer Run is back for another year! The children will run 2,4 or 6 laps around the field, depending on their age and ability, to raise money for Farleigh hospice.

We will provide the children with a pair of reindeer antlers (kindly provided by Farleigh) and ask for a minimum donation of £2 per child please. I have also attached a sponsor form here if your child would like to try and raise even more money.

Farleigh Hospice provides free care and support to people across mid-Essex who are affected by life-limiting illnesses or bereavement. All funds raised will help their dedicated team continue this vital work.

Last year, I had the pleasure of being Santa. However, I soon discovered that the children were much faster than me!  If anyone is a keen runner and would like to volunteer to have all the reindeers (children) run after them on the day, please let the office know.

Eco Hat Parade - Tuesday 16th December

We are thrilled to announce our Eco Hat Parade is back for another year!
For those of you who are new to the school, this is a long-running tradition at our school (Welcome to all of our new families, in addition to reception, we have welcomed 13 new families this term!)

Children are invited to bring materials into school on the 16th so they can design, make and wear Christmas hats made from recycled or reusable materials. This is a great opportunity to celebrate creativity and sustainability.  The most sustainable and creative hats will receive a prize.

Home School Agreement

Please can I remind everyone that our Home–School Agreement is available on the website under Parents Info. I encourage you to take a moment to review it and remind yourselves of its content. Working together is essential to ensure we provide the very best education for our pupils.

I have also uploaded a copy of this year’s School Development Plan for your information - here. Thank you for your continued support and commitment.

FOGWS

A huge thank you to our amazing FOGWS team for their continued support in organising events and fundraising for our school. At the moment, they are working hard to prepare for the Christmas Bazaar, which will be held at the Village Hall this year – please look out for raffle tickets coming your way!

Unfortunately, the recent Movie Night had to be cancelled due to a lack of volunteers. If you are able to help with this or any other events, please let a member of the committee (or the school office) know. We desperately need more helpers to make wonderful events like the School Disco and Summer Fayre happen.

In previous years, FOGWS have raised money for:

  • The running track
  • The Early Years canopy
  • Book bags for every child starting school
  • Contributions to events like the pantomime

Recently, they have helped us buy more books to update our Recommended Reads and are currently fundraising for storage and equipment for OPAL play.

The team are all volunteers – many with full-time jobs – who come together in a fun way to plan these amazing events that raise money for extras the school budget simply cannot stretch to.

So please, if you can, consider helping out. We are particularly looking for new committee members, as some of our long-standing members will be moving on next year.

Thank you for your support!

Mrs Brooks

Christmas Bazaar - Information from FOGWS

7 things you need to know about the Christmas Bazaar:

1. It's in a new venue! We are taking our Christmas Bazaar over the road to the village hall!

2. Santa's grotto tickets will be going live on Wednesday (26th) at 6pm! Please go to pta-events.co.uk/FOGWS to get your tickets (Important note - please only buy 1 main ticket per family.  Sibling tickets can then be bought at a discounted price where you will be asked for the additional child's name, age and time of your purchased slot)

3. Game tokens are on sale now! After the success of our token system at the summer fete, we'll be adopting the same approach at this event, with even more stalls accepting tokens (including face painting and snowman biscuits). Go to pta-events.co.uk/FOGWS to pre order - they will also be available to purchase at the Bazaar.  Please note that food, hot drinks and the bar will remain cash/card.

4. Raffle tickets are coming home today - there are lots of great prizes, including a Wild and Rooted Christmas turkey, a family ticket to Enlightened @ Hylands Park, Afternoon Tea @ Little Channels, The Stores voucher and a £50 cash prize!

5. Friday 5th December is a non-uniform day in exchange for a Tombola prize - bottles/chocolates/biscuits please.

6. We're collecting teddies for the teddy tombola -  if you have any that you would like to donate, please drop into the school office.

7. We need you!  We simply cannot run the stalls and games without volunteers (all the FOGWS mums work and have kids too!) If you're able to give an hour of your time to help out, please fill in this short google form (We also really need people to help us clear up at the end as it takes forever when it's only a couple of us).

Thank you so much for all your support, as always. We can't wait to see you there for some Christmassy magic for all of our children!
