Headteacher Message
13 days left of the school term and a school year that has felt 'normal'. The summer term has felt that way because the school staff are pretty exhausted with all the events running alongside the end of year commitments they have. I loved the IOW trip but, I have been catching up those 5 days ever since!
Sports week was great fun - to see the children participating, smiling, competing and working together was brilliant. Thanks to Nathan French, Rachel Lewis and Jess Tappin, the Olympic / Commonwealth Games athletes who inspired the children.
It was great to see so many people attend Sports Day - the children certainly had to compete in front of a crowd!
One footnote - for any school event can you please ensure you do pay attention to parking around the village and in particular, the Village Hall. The blue public bays are small in number and have a time limit. The other spaces are for hall users only and on Sports Day their use was compromised.
This week I have been uploading assessment data to the local authority and DfE. Children's attainment in EYFS, Y1 Phonics, Y2 and Y6 are recorded so schools can be compared. This is the first time this has happened since 2019 due to C19. Well done to all the children and staff for their efforts. I will add the data to the last newsletter.
I enjoyed a good meeting with the new headteacher, Mrs Brooks yesterday. She is looking forward to getting started. It broke up ny day from reading class reports - it is great to read about the children's progress, although working in a small school, I rarely read something I did not know too much about!
A huge thank you to the FOGWS for all of their efforts organising today's summer fete, we really appreciate all of the volunteers giving up their time arranging these events for the children and raising funds for the school.
The annual parent survey has been circulated today. We would be very grateful if you could complete it so staff and governors can review the past year. This helps with the school's self-evaluation.
Very sadly, we have a boy, Bobby, in Y1 who is poorly and is having treatment at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). I am proud to announce that I am going to have another go at a triathlon after my first one at Gosfield Lake last summer. This time it will be the London Triathlon. I would like to raise funds for GOSH in support of Bobby. Whilst the 40km cycle ride and 10km run do not phase me too much, trying to complete these after swimming 1500m is the bit I find very challenging. I can swim - but rather slowly!

Have a great weekend.
Mr Burden.
