Friday 7th October 22 - Autumn Term Issue 3

Headteacher Message

I wanted to begin by thanking you all for your kind words of encouragement during our recent Ofsted Inspection.  Once the official report is published we can let you know the outcome so watch this space!

The children have had a busy couple of weeks, the girls are enjoying the football club on a Tuesday lunchtime and Years 5 and 6 took part in a football tournament at Great Baddow High School. We welcomed parents and carers from EYFS and KS1 into school on Wednesday so they could find out some more information about Anima Phonics, our new scheme, which the children are really enjoying.

To supplement the FOGWS second hand uniform sale we now have a permanent pre-loved selection of uniform for you to buy, in the reception area. All items are £1, and I think you’ll agree, it is a great way to recycle school uniform.

Important dates for next week:

Monday 10th October is the deadline to return your Cauliflower Cards

Monday 10th October is our KS1 SATs information evening, for parents/carers of children in Year 2, at 5pm followed by our KS2 SATs information evening, for parents/carers of children in Year 6, at 6pm.  We look forward to welcoming many of you to these events.

Wednesday 12th October at 2pm, is our Harvest Festival, at the church. We are collecting for the Chelmsford foodbank so if you would like to donate anything please bring the items into school on Wednesday morning.  The foodbank has put together a Harvest Shopping list which can be accessed by following the link below. Chelmsford Food Bank

Can you help?

We would really like to set up some more clubs, in particular gymnastics, gardening and choir.  If you have any talents in this area, or know anybody that does, please let us know.  These clubs could run during lunchtime, or after school and anyone involved would be subject to our usual safeguarding procedures.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and look forward to seeing you all next week.

Mrs Brooks

Media Group

This year so far has been full of fun events and has been great.  KS2 have had their Stone Age day, which they really enjoyed.

Since our projector screen broke, we have been upgraded to a Smartboard in the hall which has much less problems and works really well.

The new Yr 6's have got their buddy's and are getting along with them well.

We are all looking forward to Harvest next week, see you there!

10 Tips for Parents and Carers: How to Be Green with your Tech

Right now, humans aren’t living sustainably: we’re taking too many resources and not leaving the world in a fit state for future generations. Old tech products are a clear example: if we throw them away, the poisonous lead and mercury inside can get into the food chain through the soil. Recycling tech, though, has its own issues: it’s often exported to countries where the law doesn’t protect people from hazards. Whole villages (including children) sort through discarded devices to remove useful parts and substances like gold, silver and copper – often putting their health at risk. Finding ways to re-use tech is the greenest option.

In the guide, you'll find tips on a number of tips such as donating your old devices to charity, reusing your smartphones and recycling the batteries.

What Parents Need to Know about BeReal

BeReal is the latest trending social media app. The concept is that people see others in their authentic day-to-day lives, sharing candid photos without editing or applying filters. Each day at a random time, users are simultaneously notified to take a photo of what they’re doing at that exact moment. The two-minute window to submit an image means there’s no time to select a particularly glamorous or exciting activity. BeReal shares two pictures: a selfie, and an image of the immediate surroundings. Users can only view and react to their friends’ photos once they upload their own.

In the guide, you'll find tips on a number of potential risks such as strangers, location sharing and visible personal data.
