Headteacher Message
We marked the end of our first half term with our celebration assembly today. Well done to all those children who received an award today, and to everyone for working hard and ‘letting our light shine’ over the past seven weeks, I know the teachers are really proud of you.
Homework - During my Headteachers’ Coffee Morning a few parents spoke to me about homework, consequently we have decided to review and update our homework policy. With that in mind, we will be sending out a homework survey today to ask for your views. It will take a few minutes to complete and we would really value everyone’s contributions so that we can have a policy that works for all our children. I’ll write to you with the results and any plans after half term.
Secondary School Admissions - Please don’t forget to complete your application by 31st October Essex.gov - Secondary school applications link
Prospective Parent’s Tours - I’m currently running tours of the school for parents of children who are due to start school in September 2023. If you know anyone in this situation, please spread the word.
Healthy Schools - Well done to Miss Byford who this week, has successfully renewed our healthy school’s status for another two years. Please can I remind you that children are welcome to bring fruit or vegetables to school for their morning snack. Fruit flakes, winders or cereal bars etc. should not be brought in. If you have any questions about this, please catch me at the gate or speak to your child’s class teacher.
Preloved Uniform and Food Box - Thank you to FOGWS, who despite the various down pours yesterday, ran a preloved uniform sale.
Please remember to compliment this we also have a preloved uniform rail in the office area for you to access all year round. Alongside this we also have a food box. If you suddenly find yourselves facing poverty and hunger due to a change in circumstances or perhaps a large bill please help yourself to items in the box. If you can donate something to the box when you’re back on your feet again, that’s great, but not a requirement. Please remember we are always here to help.
Finally, I just want to say that I have thoroughly enjoyed my first half term at GWPS, all the staff, governors and children have made me feel so welcome and I can’t wait to return after half term. I hope you all have a wonderful break and I look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday 31st October.
