Friday 11th November 22 - Autumn Term Issue 5

Headteacher Message

I hope you all have had a restful half term.  It’s been great to see all the children back and busy learning.  Classes Europe and Asia have been busy preparing for their class assemblies and the sound of Christmas music has been coming from the hall as the KS1 and EYFS children practise their Nativity play.

Today all the staff and children gathered together on the playground, for two minutes’ silence so we could pay our respects to all those lost in conflict.

Please don’t forget to dig out your child/ren’s odd socks on Monday to kick off Anti-bullying week.  The teachers have lots of activities planned around this year’s theme REACH OUT.

Morning Routine

We will be making some changes to our morning drop-off routine, please look out for a separate ParentMail e-mail with further details.

Uniform

I think the children always look so smart in their school uniform, here is a link to remind everyone of the expectations within our uniform policy. GWPS uniform guide

Please remember if your child/ren have out grown their uniform the FOGWS have regular pre-loved uniforms sales as well as our pre-loved hanger full of uniform in the office area.

Facebook

Alongside our school Twitter account we have now set up a Facebook page which we will use to remind you of some key events, we will not post any pictures of the children on this site and please remember to always check the school diary dates on the school website alongside this.  There are a few unofficial school pages but if you follow this link Facebook then you will be following the correct page.

Have a great weekend.

Mrs Brooks

National Online Safety

What Parents Need to Know about Amigo

Amigo is a social platform which purports to connect strangers from around the world – and, with built-in translation software, it reduces the expected language barriers. Focusing heavily on one-to-one chat, video calls and live streams, Amigo encourages its users to build up online relationships to unlock exclusive features such as private video and audio calls: essentially, the more that people chat, the more features become available to them. This is an app designed with mature users very much in mind and is therefore definitely not recommended for children.

In the guide, you'll find tips on a number of potential risks such as inappropriate contact, strangers and membership costs.

What Parents Need to Know about How to Combat Online Bullying

Defined as “ongoing hurtful behaviour towards someone online”, cyber-bullying makes its victims feel upset, uncomfortable and unsafe. In the digital world, it has numerous forms – such as hurtful comments on a person’s posts or profile; deliberately leaving them out of group chats; sharing embarrassing images or videos of someone; or spreading gossip about them. Cyber-bullying can severely impact a young person’s mental health … so, in support of Anti-Bullying Week, we’ve provided a list of tips to help trusted adults know what to look for and how to respond to it.

In the guide, you'll find tips such as playing online games with your child, talking about your child’s online life and being prepared to listen without showing any judgement or criticism.
