Friday 14th July 23 - Summer Term Issue 6

Headteacher Message

This is the final newsletter of the year and what a year it’s been!

I have been looking back at all the previous newsletters and reflecting on all the achievements and experiences the children have enjoyed this year.  One of the strengths of our school is the broad and balanced curriculum that we have to offer and we are all very proud of what the children have accomplished this year.  Thank you for your support with this as the partnership between parents/carers and school is vital in your child’s education. Next week we will say goodbye to our current year 6, an amazing group of young people who have grown so much during their time at GWPS, they demonstrate our vision ‘Let all that you do be done in love’ well and the ASPIRE values these children have shown over their seven years at this school are a credit to them all.

It’s been a busy end to the summer term, the children have listened to presentations from Essex Fire Service on the importance of water safety over the summer holidays. Ollie, a brass tutor from Essex Music Services came into school last week and played a variety of instruments in assembly. I am pleased to say we are now able to offer brass and violin lessons in school from September.  If you are interested in this, please let the office know by Wednesday.

Last Friday was our ‘Party in the Playground’. It was wonderful to see all the children enjoying themselves.  Thank you to the FOGWS for all their efforts in organising this event and thanks to all the parents, carers, family members, staff and friends who came along to support this event.  The FOGWS will be in touch soon to let you know how much money we have raised.

I am pleased to announce that the exercise track will finally be installed during the summer holidays (weather permitting) so when the children return to school in September they will no doubt be very excited to have it in place.

At the end of this term we will be saying goodbye to Mrs Bradley and Mrs Stevens.  Mrs Bradley will be retiring as an MDA and has worked at the school for over 6 years, she will be very much missed. Mrs Stevens will be leaving our LSA and MDA team, again she will be very much missed, especially by all the children she has helped over the last 5 years.  We wish them both the best in their new adventures.

I also wanted to share that Miss Byford welcomed baby Theo into the world lastIts A Boy Images - Free Download on Freepik Friday, Mum and baby are doing well and we look forward to meeting Theo.

Finally, I would like to wish you all a wonderful summer holiday and I look forward to welcoming you back on Tuesday 5th September!

Very best wishes,

Justine Brooks

What Parents and Carers Need to Know about Rumble

Conceived as giving independent content creators equal representation in the online space, Rumble has found something of a niche in restoring a voice to influencers who have been blocked from similar platforms. It’s become particularly renowned as a forum for political debate, with some prominent account holders’ choice of subject matter attracting a degree of notoriety.

Indeed, a study by the USA’s Pew Research Centre found that the platform’s most popular topics included gun laws, the January 2021 Capitol riots and Covid vaccines. Many parents and carers may feel that these sensitive topics – when addressed in a less-than-sensitive manner – aren’t suitable for young users.

How to Stay Safe Online this Summer

With the school summer holidays only a matter of days away, many parents and carers will already be planning outings and activities to keep their young ones entertained. In between those special summer moments, though, there are also likely to be occasions when children happily invest a whole afternoon in Among Us or spend most of their Monday on Minecraft.

As young people’s screen time almost inevitably increases over the holidays, parents like to feel confident that their child will stay safe while they’re exploring the digital world. So we’ve produced a #WakeUpWednesday poster with some simple solutions to help children avoid frequent online pitfalls and enjoy a more positive experience when they go online this summer.
