Houses of Parliament - By Leo

On Wednesday, two privileged Y6 students (Leo S and Florence J) travelled to London with two members of staff (Mrs. Goodwin and Mrs. Brooks) to meet MPs and talk to them about climate change and climate justice. They also sight saw many modern monuments on the way to Portcullis House including: Big Ben, the Shard, the Walkie Talkie, the London Eye and the West Ham United stadium in Stratford and then they finally arrived at London Liverpool Street. After that, they got a taxi to Christian Aid which taught them about what they were going to talk about and how they were going to. They had lunch in a special room in Portcullis, people set up the artwork from all of the schools including Great Waltham (Rowan W, Alice H, Leo S and Florence J's artwork) were put up. At quarter to two, the MPs started entering the room and two pupils from every school started giving them tours.

Christmas Bazaar - By Holly & Riley

On Friday, we had an amazing Christmas fair with a variety of games. We also had a spectacular carrousel that was meant for all ages, we also had some raffle tickets to get a tombola prize for the parents and a platter of amazing food including cakes, chips and other great things. People got their face painted the colour or design of their choice and overall the Christmas fair was a big hit and everybody that came home, left with a big smile on their face.

The pantomime - By Maisie

On Tuesday, all of Great Waltham School went to the pantomime. We went with 3 other schools and we bought a fruit snack to eat during the break. We watched Jack and the Beanstalk and it was amazing there was such good actors and my favourite bit was when the Queen, Billy and the mum ran into the audience and squirted water all over us. The year 6's went and sat with their buddies and the rest of the school sat somewhere else. Asia, North America and Year R went in a double decker bus and Europe, Antarctica and Africa went in another bus and the rest of the year 5s in a minibus. I really enjoyed it and I want to go again!

What Parents and Carers Need to Know about Disney+

In 2019, media titan Disney launched its own streaming platform, intending to challenge the likes of Netflix and Amazon Prime. Giving (often exclusive) access to shows and movies – such as the legendary studio’s animated classics and the revered Star Wars back catalogue – Disney+ has been a colossal success, proving popular with viewers of all ages.

Despite Disney’s reputation for wholesome, child-friendly content, however, there’s far more material available on their platform – some of which is aimed exclusively at adults. This could easily fly under the radar, given the company’s general image. Our guide has useful tips to help your family sit back, relax and enjoy what Disney+ has to offer.

What Schools Need to Know about The Online Safety Act

After a lengthy gestation period, the UK Government’s wide-ranging changes to the legislation around digital safeguarding have become enshrined in law as the Online Safety Act. The first of its kind in Britain, the act aims to improve protection for children online and clamp down on illegal material. Regulated by Ofcom, it will primarily impact social media platforms and companies which host user-generated content.

The new legislation, however, also carries implications for schools and their staff. Although further developments are expected, our guide summarises the main points of the act that schools need to be aware of so far – outlining some specific areas that the new laws address and what effect, in practical terms, this will have on education providers.
