Friday 19th January 24 - Spring Term Issue 1

Headteacher Message

Revd Dan came into school and led collective worship this week.  He talked to the children about our school vision:

‘Let all that you do be done in love’ (1 Cor 16:14)

The children (and adults) enjoyed singing along with him.

Attendance – Thank you!

I wanted to start by thanking families for their continued support to instil good time keeping habits and promote good attendance for your children.  Our whole school attendance is currently at 95.1% which is above the national average, this is definitely something to be proud of.  At this time of year, there is often absence due to illness so I have attached a useful poster to remind you of the NHS guidelines around if it is safe to send your child to school.

Also. I have some interesting facts to share regarding lateness to school. If your child is five minutes late per day this adds up to three lost learning days in a school year.  If they are 15 minutes late each day they will miss two full weeks of school in one year. Definitely food for thought.  I have attached a poster about the importance of bedtime / morning routine.  As ever, if you require any advice or support around attendance please let the office know.

National Online Safety

Top Tips for Managing Screen Time

From using them for communication, work, shopping and entertainment, devices such as smartphones, laptops and the rest are now deeply ingrained into modern society. Small wonder, then, that young people – who’ve grown up surrounded by such gadgets – can sometimes struggle to put them down, switch them off or keep themselves occupied without them.

While limiting our screen time may require a great deal of restraint, the effort can be rewarded with significant benefits to our physical and mental health. Our guide has simple tips for helping to manage the amount of screen time in your household – encouraging the whole family to spend more quality time together and live in the moment.

Smartphone Safety Tips for Young People

According to Ofcom, 69% of under-18s use a smartphone as their main method of going online. Additionally, 49% of children use them for online gaming – putting smartphones only behind consoles (59%) as the device of choice for playing games on. Most people won’t require such statistical evidence, however, to acknowledge the huge importance of phones to young people.

Given that Santa’s recent visit is likely to have bestowed smartphones on an even greater number of young people, it’s a particularly opportune moment to ensure that children are able to use their handsets responsibly – and, above all, safely. From passcodes to parental controls, and from screen time to scams, our guide has the essential advice.
