Friday 16th February 24 - Spring Term Issue 3

Headteacher Message

We have had an incredibly busy half term at GWPS.  Lucy and Charis, from year 4, joined 11 other schools from the Chelmsford Diocese in a summit celebrating identity, diversity and growing future leaders. The day, which was held at Chelmsford Cathedral, was filled with hope, learning, listening, empowerment and music. We were so proud to be part of this.

This week, we welcomed parents and carers from Class Africa into school for lunch, the roast chicken followed by apple crumble and custard went down very well. Thank you to Mrs Mixture and the lunchtime team.

Our Year 4 children attended a Super Stars Festival, which is a fun multi skills event in Chelmsford.  Ms Lovell said the children worked really well as a team and had a great time competing against other local schools.

As part of Children’s Mental Health week each class took part in a ‘Walk and Talk’ session and the children also had their usual yoga lesson where everyone really appreciated the time out of their busy week.  Upcoming Events — Emmanuel Chesham

As this half term draws to an end it is lovely to see the grounds of the school start to blossom which reminds us of the brighter days to come!

Have a lovely half term break and we look forward to welcoming the children back on Monday 26th February

Friends of Great Waltham Primary School

Thanks to the FOGWS fundraising efforts we have been able to order a brand new class set of iPad's, with cases and a charging trolley.  Thank you so much for supporting the events that the FOGWS organise as it enables us to purchase equipment such as this for the school. I am sure the children will tell you all about the iPads over the coming weeks.

Mrs French has been chair of the FOGWS for three years but has decided to step down. I would like to thank her for all her dedication and hard work fundraising for the school, we all really appreciate her efforts.  Fortunately, Mrs French will not be stepping down completely and has offered to carry on volunteering at future events.

The FOGWS will be holding an EGM in the coming weeks, we will of course give you plenty of notice of the date and time.  Please come along to support the committee when electing a new chair.

What Parents and Carers Need to Know about Monkey

With Omegle finally shutting down in late 2023, the top spot among video chat services is up for grabs – and Monkey has its eyes set on the crown. Randomly matching its users for 15-second conversations, the platform’s developers claim to have created a dynamic online space for people to make new connections and, potentially, even some new friends.

Despite these innocuous-sounding intentions, however, Monkey has been criticised for moderation which may not be comprehensive enough to defend against the obvious dangers that unregulated, random video calls pose to the younger element of the site’s userbase. Our guide tells trusted adults what they need to know about Monkey.
