Friday 26th April 24 - Summer Term Issue 1

Headteacher Message

Thankfully the sun made a brief appearance for the class photos today! All the children looked very smart. Please keep an eye out for a card with information on how you can purchase the photos.

This week in collective worship, we have come together as a school to explore the theme of spirituality. The children have explored ‘The Golden Glue of Spirituality’, the ‘WOW’ times, the ‘OW’ times and the ‘NOW’ times. We have also learnt British Sign Language for ‘Peace be with you’, which I’m sure the children will share with you.  If you have a moment, please talk to the children about these themes and if you would like to explore the concept of spirituality, you may find this video helpful.

In other the news, I’m delighted to share that Great Waltham ‘High 5’ netball team have made it to the finals in May.  They played really well and didn’t lose a match. Well done to all involved. For a full report please read the news item below.

Thank you to those who have volunteered to help at the gardening event tomorrow or have donated plants and compost.  We are so grateful for your generosity and feel very lucky to have such a supportive school community.  If you haven’t signed up to help tomorrow and you would like to pop along to lend a hand, the school will be open from 10-12.

Notices

A polite reminder that dogs (even in arms) should not be brought onto school premises.

Please also remember to dismount and walk with your bikes/scooters once you are on school grounds. Thank you

Have a lovely weekend.

Mrs Justine Brooks

Online Safety & Mental Health

The National Online Safety have teamed up with the national college and will now be sharing guides on both online safety and mental health.

What Parents and Educators Need to Know about Township

Potentially addictive online games are nothing new, but the specifics of this kind of media can vary enormously – and, as a consequence, the risks in each individual game are just as diverse. The city-builder Township is no exception: providing its legions of devotees with accessible, satisfying fun … but exposing them to potential hazards at the same time.

However, any safeguarding issues that the game might have can (with a little knowhow) be neutralised – allowing young players to have some engrossing fun without adults needing to worry about children’s data, their money or their mental wellbeing. Our guide outlines how to help young gamers enjoy Township safely and responsibly.

10 Top Tips for Parents and Educators: Developing Healthy Sleep Patterns

For children and young people, low-quality sleep can become a serious issue. It has been theorised that poor sleep can have a significant impact on children’s brain development, affecting them for the rest of their lives. A healthy – and consistent – sleeping pattern, therefore, is incredibly important for children and young people’s wellbeing.

With the stresses and distractions that can present themselves to youngsters, it can be tricky to ensure they’re in the best mindset to wind down in the evenings for the rejuvenating rest that they need. The right approach, however, can give them a better chance of cultivating a healthy sleeping pattern. Our guide has some practical tips on helping them to achieve exactly that.
