Friday 10th May 2024 - Summer Term Issue 2

Headteacher Message

The sun is finally here and the children are making the most of our wonderful grounds.  Thank you so much to all the parents, governors and staff who gave up their time to help at our first ever schools grounds day on Saturday 17th  April.  It was a great success and we hope to hold these regularly moving forward.  There are some pictures in the news item below if you are interested in seeing what we got up to.  I also wanted to thank members of the FOGWS who had the onerous task of dismantling the ageing FOGWS shed and then assembling a new one.  Your work is much appreciated.

Next week is SATS week for our Year 6 children and I’m sure you will join me in wishing them the best of luck.  We are so proud of how hard they have worked and the ASPIRE values they have shown as they prepare for these assessments.  Our year 4 children also have their multiplication table check coming up in the first week of June and I know they are all busy practising their tables.  This week, a parent shared with me that you can learn the 6 tables to ‘Shake it Off’ by Taylor Swift so I had a quick google and was impressed!  I’m sure this will be of interest to some of the children (and teachers)!

I’m pleased to share that we will exhibiting some of the children’s art work at a Pop-Up Exhibition at Chelmsford Cathedral.  The exhibition, entitled ‘Creative Courageous Advocacy’  will be running from the 18th-21st June.  Further information can be found below.

Attendance and Lates

This week I have been contacting parents whose children’s attendance is a concern to see if we can work together to help improve it. Next year you will be able to keep track of your child’s attendance when we roll out the My Child at School app, I hope you will find this useful.

Please save the date for the Summer fete on Saturday 6th July and a Bingo fundraiser on Friday 24th May at 6.30pm. Further information to follow.

Wishing you all a wonderful and safe weekend.

Mrs Brooks

What Parents and Educators Need to Know about Shopping Platforms

Long gone are the days where eBay and Amazon were the only means of buying quality items online. The rise of user-friendly, accessible shopping apps has meant that getting clothes, gadgets and other goodies delivered direct to your door can be accomplished with a few touches of your phone’s screen while you’re on the go.

These apps aren’t without their issues, however, and users still run the risk of scams, data breaches and other online safety concerns. Being aware of these dangers will go a long way to keeping your money and information safe, so you can still enjoy what these shopping apps have to offer. Our guide has some top tips to help protect young people on these purchasing platforms.

10 Top Tips on Supporting Children with Self-Regulation

As infants, we all rely completely on adults to help us resolve situations that are causing us to become upset or stressed. This is known as co-regulation. The next phase, once autonomy has begun to develop, is called self-regulation: this is when children start to become capable of exercising more control over their impulses and behaviour, and managing their own emotions.

This vital developmental milestone, however, isn’t reached spontaneously. Learning to self-regulate requires sensitive guidance from trusted adults – simply talking with children about their thoughts and feelings, for instance, can ease the route to self-regulation. This #WakeUpWednesday guide has some expert tips for supporting children to reach this goal.
