Friday 24th May 2024 - Summer Term Issue 3

Headteacher Message

On Monday, our KS1 and Reception children visited ‘Call of the Wild Zoo’ to learn more about animal habitats.  They watched a demonstration and toured the zoo. It was a great day and the children were impeccably behaved so thank you to the teachers and staff who organised the visit.

Mrs Castle delivered some of the children’s art work to Chelmsford Cathedral ahead of the pop-up exhibition entitled ‘Creative Courageous Advocacy’ running from 18th-21st June.  I am hoping to take a group of children to visit the exhibition, but if you have the opportunity to go, I think it will be an excellent show case of local children speaking out against an injustice, in the hope of becoming agents of change.

I hope you all have a wonderful half term. We look forward to seeing the children back in school on Wednesday 5th June.

What Parents and Educators Need to Know about School Avoidance

School avoidance is a sharply increasing phenomenon, with tangible negative effects on children’s wellbeing and education. The factors that come together to make a child consciously avoid seeing their classmates and teachers can be much more complicated than is often assumed. A careful, mindful approach from parents, carers and educators is required to help children return to an environment that may be causing them intense anxiety.

Our guide aims to help you understand the issue of school avoidance – not only its potential roots and ramifications, but also what you can do to help children and young people navigate these obstacles and continue their education.
