Wednesday 6th November 2024 - Autumn Term Issue 3

Headteacher Message

Welcome back!

It was wonderful to see everyone after half term and well done to all those children who received awards in our celebration assembly before the holiday. Today, the author Karen Noller, visited school.  During a whole school assembly, she spoke to the children about her journey as an author and what inspires her to write.  She then worked with the children in KS2 who produced their own stories. Karen was very impressed by the children's attitude, behaviour and standard of writing.

Anti-bullying Week 2024

Next week is Anti-bullying week and the theme this year is ‘Choose Respect’.  The week will begin with a whole school assembly followed by lessons where the children will be learning about how to report bullying and respecting others.  Tuesday 12th November is 'odd socks day' which is a chance for us to celebrate anti-bullying week in a positive way. Children should come to school in their uniform but can choose to wear odd socks, the brighter the better! Class Europe’s assembly which centres around the theme of Anti-bullying will end the week.  I have attached a tool for parents and carers which includes activities you can do at home to support the week and some helpful definitions of bullying.

FOGWS

A reminder that the FOGWS rescheduled AGM is being held on Friday 15th November at 6.00pm in the school hall.

The work that the FOGWS do to raise money for the school is invaluable and we really appreciate everyone that helps to organise and run the many events throughout the year.  Without everyone's efforts to raise this extra money, we would not be able to fund things such as - the coaches to the pantomime, the running track or the new iPads.  If you can support the FOGWS in any way, please get in touch or come along to the AGM to see how you can help.

We look forward to seeing many of you there.

Best Wishes,

Mrs Brooks

Notices

Uniform

Please can I remind you that children should wear black, white or grey plain socks with their uniform and PE kits (no logos).

Everyone should be bringing a coat to school as we always aim to get the children outside for breaks even when it is raining. We do have a surplus of coats in school, especially in KS2 so please don’t forget to name them!

A reminder to complete the form about our vision & values as previously shared on a letter from Mrs Brooks:

SIAMS Inspection

This year we are due our ‘Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools’ (SIAMS). In a similar way to Ofsted, all Church of England schools are visited regularly to explore ways in which each school’s theologically rooted Christian vision drives its work and enables the school to live up to its foundation as a Church school. The governors, children and staff have been working hard to prepare for this and we are really looking forward to demonstrating our vision and values. I have created a Microsoft form to collate parents/carers views about how we live out our vision and values. If you could make time to provide any feedback, I would really appreciate it. We usually receive a week’s notice before the inspection so I will update you when I have a firm date.

Online Safety & Mental Health

Supporting Children to Build Emotional Resilience

Facing unpleasant feelings can be a challenge, even for adults – let alone for children and young people, whose minds are still developing. To many youngsters, a mistake in an exam, a hurtful word or even losing in a game can sometimes feel like the worst thing in the world, causing them to react accordingly.

However, this isn’t always an effective way to deal with difficult emotions or life’s setbacks, so it's important that parents and educators are able impress a healthy approach to these feelings on the children in their care. This free guide offers you expert tips on how to instil emotional resilience in young people, helping them to learn from unexpected feelings and situations – and to process them in a mature, effective manner.

What Parents & Educators Need to Know about Fortnite

Over the years, Fortnite has become a household name in the gaming community. It was one of the first titles in the ‘battle royale’ subgenre, where players are thrown into a chaotic free-for-all on a sprawling map and fight until only one remains. Its cartoonish presentation and satisfying gameplay loop make it a potentially attractive choice for young players.

However, it’s important to remember that online safety risks are always present – especially in multiplayer games – and Fortnite is no exception. This free guide, put together with expert input, tells you all you need to know about the safety concerns of this popular title and offers advice on how to protect children and young people as they enjoy the game.
