Wednesday 29th January 2025 - Spring Term Issue 2

Headteacher Message

Last week was another eventful week at school as we welcomed our SIAMS inspector. I was really impressed by how our children conducted themselves. Their ability to articulate our school's vision and values with confidence made us all so proud. The inspector's observation that we have "lovely children" resonates deeply with my own thoughts. Once the report is finalised, I look forward to sharing it with you all.

Our collective worship this week has centered around a thought-provoking question: "Who should be involved in making key decisions for the world?" This inquiry has sparked engaging discussions about our individual and collective responsibilities, emphasising that everyone, from world leaders to each one of us, has a role to play in shaping our global community.

I am delighted to celebrate the success of our Year 5 and 6 pupils who participated in Young Voices at the O2 arena. This extraordinary experience was enjoyed by all and is one that I’m sure they will never forget. My thanks to our dedicated staff for accompanying the children and to our supportive parents and carers who braved the late hour to collect their children at 11:20pm!

Our younger pupils have also been busy this week. Class Australia enjoyed an excellent session on balance bikes, practising their physical skills and growing in confidence. Meanwhile, our Bronze Ambassadors received training on new playground games, which they will share with the other children at lunchtime.

I'm pleased to report that our whole school attendance currently stands at 95.4%, which is commendable for this time of year. To support your decision-making process about sending your child to school when they're unwell, I encourage you to consult the NHS guidance available here -  NHS - Is my child too ill for school? Remember, our office staff are always available to discuss any attendance concerns. Additionally, you can now conveniently view your child's attendance on the MCAS app.

This term is certainly going quickly, with only two weeks left until half term.  Signs of spring are starting to show around the school grounds and the days are getting longer which is always welcomed at this time of year. Thank you for your ongoing support and, as ever, please reach out to us if you have any concerns.

What Parents & Educators Need to Know about Health & Fitness Apps

Over time, more and more fitness apps have been finding their way into circulation. Usually free to download – at least initially – these apps claim to offer helpful advice and assistance in routine management to those looking to lead a healthier lifestyle.

While these platforms can be useful, they do present several safety concerns. These issues become more significant when we consider that children and young people can use these apps to stay active – whether out of concern for their own health or for reasons of body image. Our free guide breaks down the risks of health and fitness apps and offers expert advice on how to address these concerns to safeguard younger users.

Top Tips for Supporting Children to Develop Emotional Literacy

As we grow up, we’re inevitably exposed to new and challenging feelings – whether it’s sadness, fear or rage. These emotions can be tough to handle when we’re still learning about the world – and even once we’ve passed into adulthood – which is why emotional literacy is a vital life skill.

Of course, when emotions are running high, it can be tricky to help young people process these feelings in a healthy way, but it’s incredibly important that we do so as parents and educators. This free guide provides you with expert tips on teaching children to recognise their own emotions and deal with them in a mature manner.
