Friday 24th November 23 - Autumn Term Issue 5

Headteacher Message

It has been a busy couple of weeks with two class assemblies, well done to all the children involved in these, the amount they have learnt since September always surprises me!  The year 5/6 boys had a friendly game of football against Little Waltham, some of our Year 1 children attended the Teddy Lympics and some of the year 3/4 children represented the school at the Falcon Bowls Club. Please see the news items below for more pictures and information. Whenever the children represent the school, I’m always impressed with how they demonstrate the ASPIRE values. Thank you to the staff and volunteers that make these events possible.

KS1 SATS changes

KS1 SATs are now optional so if you are a parent/carer of a child who is currently in year 2 we would like to invite you to a meeting at 3:30pm on Tuesday 16th January. During this meeting, we will share more information about how we plan to assess your child/ren next year.

Headteacher Meeting

Thank you to those who were able to attend the afternoon tea with me before half term.  As promised, I have put the slides on the website for everyone to view Headteacher Meeting Slides

During the meeting, I shared the results of the recent swimming survey. As you can see from below, the voucher scheme was the most popular, although not by a huge percentage.  We will therefore investigate the voucher scheme further but continue to peruse a workable and affordable option for swimming lessons during school time.  I will update you more when I have some firm news to share.

Reminders

The Christingle service is on Sunday 3rd December at 11am, please bring your oranges into school on Thursday 30th ready to decorate.

FOGWS Christmas Bazaar on Friday 1st December. Please come in to school in non- uniform in exchange for a tombola prize.

It is really busy in school this time of year so please keep regular checks on the school calendar so you don’t miss anything.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Mrs Brooks

New PA System - Thank you Javalin Network Services

Thanks to our friends at Javalin network services, who have kindly donated a new PA system to the school. The old PA system had been repaired several times and finally gave up over the summer term. Looking for a replacement system was proving difficult due to the costs involved! Thankfully Javalin saved the day.

Children will be able to use the new system in assemblies and of course sports day will certainly be louder! Thank you to all at Javalin Network services.

National Online Safety

Top Tips for Safer Online Shopping on Black Friday and Cyber Monday

Gone are the days of Black Friday only existing in the physical environs of the high street. Now, both this retail landmark and its sister event, Cyber Monday, see deals and discounts displayed across almost every online retailer. The array of reductions makes this an ideal moment to treat a loved one (or yourself!) to those treasured items for considerably less than their usual cost.

The frantic dash for the best bargains online, however, also harbours several risks: chiefly, cybercriminals hoping to exploit people’s excitement and hoodwink them out of their hard-earned cash. Our guide has some expert pointers on keeping both your money and your personal information safe while still making the most of the spectacular sales.

What Parents and Carers Need to Know about Smart TVs

Smart TVs have become more affordable in recent years, making them readily available to most consumers. These more advanced systems offer numerous features beyond those of a normal television set – chiefly, the ability to access the internet and interface with popular streaming services without the need for a set-top box or other intermediary device.

This increased functionality, however, also brings additional threats to privacy, security and more – as you’d perhaps expect from any device capable of going online. As TV is such a cornerstone of our home lives, these dangers can be uniquely difficult to manage. Our guide breaks down the major risks, with tips on helping children to enjoy TV … stress free.
