English is a core subject at our school and underpins all learning. From the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) to Year 6, our curriculum is guided by the EYFS Statutory Framework and the National Curriculum, ensuring clear progression in reading, writing, phonics, spelling and oracy.
In EYFS, children develop early communication, language and literacy skills through a rich and supportive environment, providing a strong foundation for future learning. As pupils move through the school, our carefully sequenced curriculum builds knowledge and skills over time, enabling them to communicate confidently and apply their learning across the curriculum.
We use high-quality programmes to support this approach: Ready Steady Write, Ready Steady Spell and Anima Phonics. These ensure a structured, consistent and effective approach, maximising learning and supporting all pupils to become confident readers and writers.
