Mathematics
Intent
At our school, we aim to develop confident, fluent and resilient mathematicians who can reason logically, solve problems effectively and explain their mathematical thinking. Through a mastery approach, we ensure that all pupils from EYFS to Year 6 build a secure and connected understanding of mathematical concepts and procedures. Through our school’s ethos ‘Let all that you do be done in love’ and our lifelong values ‘ASPIRE’, all children are challenged and encouraged to excel in Maths.
Implementation
Our mathematics curriculum is designed to secure fluency in number facts, calculation methods and mental strategies, enabling pupils to recall and apply their knowledge accurately and efficiently. We promote deep conceptual understanding through the consistent use of Concrete, Pictorial and Abstract (CPA) representations, helping children make meaningful connections between mathematical ideas. Pupils are encouraged to reason mathematically, solve increasingly complex problems, identify patterns, make connections and justify their conclusions using evidence and logical thinking.
Impact
We place a strong emphasis on the development of mathematical vocabulary, precision and communication so that pupils can explain, discuss and record their thinking effectively. We strive to encourage a positive attitude towards mathematics by enabling children to see its relevance and purpose in everyday life, encouraging them to work systematically, accurately and with increasing independence. Our curriculum is ambitious for all learners and is designed to provide every child with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to succeed in mathematics and apply their learning across a range of contexts.
